This year is the first Christmas at which I will be completely vegan. Our family has always been very supportive of both Koren and my dietary nuances but we understand it is sometimes hard to cater for vegos. In light of this, we decided it was time to start creating some new Christmas food traditions. On my cooking list: pesto mushies, choc-peanut brownie balls, a salad (yet to be decided) and these yummy sweet potato fortune rolls from Maple Spice. When I saw the recipe from Maple Spice I thought how special it would be to do something similar for Christmas.
Our beautiful mum, Bowen therapist, Reiki healer and avid angel card reader, had the wonderful idea to draw the fortune messages from a pack of Doreen Virtue angel cards. I sat in a quiet place and visualised our guests sitting around the table then drew cards with the intent that each guest would get a message about the coming year. If this isn’t your style, you could also search the internet for some messages or affirmations or put Christmas jokes on the cards (makes a nice change from those silly and junk-filled bon bons).
To make the actual cards, this is what I did:
What you’ll need:
Some coloured paper
Christmas paper (I used some recycled paper from last year’s presents)
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Pinking shears
Glue
Pen
Messages or affirmations
How you do it
Cut the coloured paper into rectangles 10cm by 7cm. Cut the Christmas paper into rectangles 9cm x 1.5cm. You will need two Christmas paper rectangles for each piece of coloured paper. Trim the shorter sides of the Christmas paper rectangles with the pinking shears.
Glue the Christmas paper rectangles to the top and bottom of the coloured paper. Then add your message onto the card.
I kept the decorating of my cards relatively simple as they are going in the oven and i didn’t want them to run or melt. But you could easily decorate with glitter, ribbon, tinsel and other Christmassy stuff if you’re planning on just placing them on the table or, well, not baking them.
I can’t wait to see what message each guest opens on the day.
Merry Christmas to you.
Love Alana xx

How very clever! And absolutely gorgeous. Who doesn’t need to hear some nice words?! Meanwhile, I want pesto mushrooms now.
They were so much fun. Oh, and those mushies, are THE BOMB!
Thanks so much for dropping by!
