happy birthday

Well lookee at that! Our little blog today celebrates its first birthday. And we couldn’t be more proud.

It’s been a big year.

Rewind exactly 12 months and we’d just arrived home from the Woodford Folk Festival, sporting excruciating New Year’s hangovers but determined to capitalise on the beauty of the first day of a new year by bringing to life a long-held dream and making our first foray into the blogging world. We coined our corner of the internet No Food With a Face and just started writing, not even really sure why or for whom. Then a funny thing happened. Slowly but surely, even as we were still finding our own voice, and as we morphed into The Little Green House, we began connecting with like-minded people: bloggers, colleagues, friends, strangers.

We drank our weight’s worth in wine, tea and sangria. We spent long evenings sprawled on our wooden floorboards brainstorming over butcher’s paper. We unleashed our creativity with repeated Crafternoons. We bought our first SLR cameras and started to teach ourselves the difficult art of taking pictures. We sewed. We cooked up endless vegan and vegetarian storms and discovered that we quite liked spending time in the kitchen.

And, by writing about it all, we learned to focus on the truly lovely aspects of our lives. Because, though we don’t often talk about it here, it hasn’t been all sunshine and roses for Alana and I this year. We’ve both faced some major challenges that have at times left us feeling exhausted, dejected or downright sorrowful. But this little space forced us to cheer up by shifting our focus to the many beautiful happenings in our lives, things that can be too easily overlooked. We discovered there’s something intrinsically powerful about writing down and sharing positives with the world, a constant and tangible affirmation of our abundance.

So, of course, we’re hooked!

The coming year will be one of huge change for us. I’m heading off to Spain in just a few weeks. Alana will soon welcome a new housemate into our little home with the green walls. We’ll be physically separated after five fabulous years of living together – but we know this space will help us to remain so closely connected. And we want to become more connected with all of you. We want to continue learning new things. We want this blog to keep reminding us of all the little things that are wonderful in our lives, to notice something new every day,

Today, exactly one year after taking our first step along this journey, we’ll again be nursing sore heads at the Woodford Folk Festival. But you, dear reader – whether or not you’re joining us in hangover hell – are in for a treat. Because we’re giving away three goodie packs for our loyal followers. Each pack includes two of my handmade shoulder totes in a muted blue animal print, one of Alana’s super popular fabric bookmarks and a little pack of our absolute favourite tea, Byron Chai.
