The spotty dress makeover

Spotty dress made over1

I just love finding old dresses in second-hand stores and giving them a new lease on life with a little trimming and sewing. Most of my makeovers involve the barest of changes, maybe just a hemline lift or sleeve removal that can be completed in a matter of minutes. But recently I ventured into a more daring attempt with this 1980s spotty number found for $30 at Brisbane’s wonderful Endeavour Foundation thrift shop. Of course, I wanted to share it with you. And now seems like the perfect time as unfortunately I’m still down and out with a severe back injury. So, a brief hiatus from my couch surfing tales to show you one of my favourite upcycling attempts.

Kimmi's photo booth 1

Please put your hands together and welcome Kimmi. Kimmi is my ultra, ultra, bestest friend of eight years. She is quite possibly the coolest, most laid-back, happy-go-lucky chicky I know. Last month Kimmi celebrated her 30th birthday in her home town of Cairns. I had the pleasure of sharing the weekend with her and her lovely husband, Sean, in their stunning, rainforest-surrounded house. Kimmi created all her own decorations for the party, including folding 98 paper cranes! I ‘helped’ put the last touches on the photo booth the day I arrived (aka I stood around drinking heaps of wine, trying on the crazy costumes and taking photos while Kimmi finished the photo booth). The booth was a huge hit with all the party-goers and captured so many great memories from the weekend.

30 days of gratitude

Posted by on Feb 15, 2013 in Challenge, Crafternoon, Queensland | 2 comments

A little while back, armed with some index cards, Blu-Tack and a bunch of cool connector pens, Alana and I decided to start our very own gratitude project. We agreed that each day for a whole month we would find something to be grateful for, however big or small. We jotted down these thoughts and stuck them to the back of our kitchen door, where we could see them morning and night.

How to: make fabric journal covers

Journal 2

I’m blessed to have a bunch of wonderfully inspiring girlfriends who have been my ultimate travel buddies for years. For a good while there we’d pack up every year, say goodbye to the partners in our lives and trot off to some far-flung place for a week or five. It was our way of staying connected despite the distance that came with living in cities scattered across Australia. Sadly, the trips are now becoming few and far between as many of us start settling down and doing incredibly adult things like buying houses, which really eats into the travel budget.
